Mentors Make It Happen

Feminist mentors are essential to safeguarding girls’ rights to be educated, respected, and heard. At She's the First, our vision is a world where every girl chooses her own future. To reach their goals, girls need a strong support system—and #MentorsMakeItHappen!

For International Women’s Day, we're celebrating the personal champions of girls around the world—join us! Set up a monthly donation in honor of your personal champion. By making a recurring gift, you're providing reliable support we can count on—just like you can count on your mentor.

BONUS: The Bobbi Brown Pretty Powerful Fund will match your donations for a year—but you have to sign up by March 12, 2021!

Einoth
My big dream is to see young girls achieve their dreams.
— Einoth

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Einoth, a mentor at our partner, (GLAMI), has been checking in with girls over the phone and via text, sending them information that they cannot access without Internet, TV, or radio. From her mentee: "Through her mentorship, I became strong, bold, confident, and I believe I can become a great leader in my community."

Irma

Mentors like Irma at our partner MAIA ensure a robust ecosystem of support for the most underserved girls. In Guatemala, fewer than 1% of Indigenous girls enter university, and they face discrimination against their culture, their languages, their huipil (traditional clothing). As an Indigenous woman, Irma understands the challenges girls in her community face. Irma has defied the statistics by studying social work at university, and from her shared experience, she can address girls' unique needs and provide holistic support.

Irma has been a MAIA mentor for five years. She is a graduate of MAIA’s legacy program and has taken advantage of her opportunities to study social work and support the next generation of leaders. She is an agent of change who uses her own empowerment to empower others, creating a more just and equitable world.

Meelan and Shweta play integral roles at our partner BlinkNow in Nepal. Meelan manages the Kopila Valley Health and Wellness program, where she’s responsible for all activities related to mental and physical health. Shweta plans and executes girls’ empowerment activities at BlinkNow’s Kopila Valley School and implements She’s the First’s girl-centered design strategies. She’s also an English teacher at the school.
