Internships

She’s the First Interns play an integral role as primary aides to our full-time staff, working in the areas of communications, development, and programming.

Here’s What We Offer:

  • Compensation: Interns receive a stipend. We’ll work with your college or university to make sure you receive credit, as applicable.

  • Responsibility: The work you do will matter! You will have your own projects with clear goals, and your work and ideas will have a direct, visible impact.

  • Diversity and Inclusion: They are more than just values at STF. We know the strongest teams are where everyone feels comfortable, safe and encouraged to bring their whole self to work, regardless of their gender, sexuality, religion, or race. Meet our team here.

  • Perks: The chance to represent She’s the First at exclusive events or conferences; sit in on meetings with our awesome partners, volunteers, and donors; and strengthen your leadership and professional skills through staff-led workshops and networking opportunities. There’s also often delicious snacks and coffee.

General Requirements:

  • Able to travel to our New York City office.

  • Committed to working part-time from February 2nd - May 8, 2020, for spring internships and from June 1st - August 14th, 2020 for summer internships.

  • You show the discipline and drive to thrive in a start-up environment; no task is too small for you; no challenge is too intimidating.

  • You focus on goals & tasks at hand but also think ahead to anticipate needs & multitask.

  • Demonstrated interest in girls’ and women’s rights and/or international development.

Internship Positions Available:

  • General Operations Intern: a detail-oriented, multi-tasking office whiz who delights in keeping systems running smoothly while learning the ins and outs of nonprofit organization operations.

  • Digital Content Intern: a creative and savvy communicator with skills in visual/graphic design and/or video production and a love of all things social media.

  • Advocacy Intern: a diligent researcher who makes keeping up with global issues part of their daily routine and brings the skills to organize communities IRL for a common cause.

As an intern at She’s the First, I not only had the opportunity to learn from both my successes and failures, but was given the freedom to think on my feet, and make my own decisions. What I love most about She’s the First is that though the organization has a large female presence, the organization is not about women superiority, but about truly creating a world with equality in education.

– Sagar Gultai, Summer 2016

Being an intern at She’s the First is unlike any other work experience I’ve had so far; it’s a unique office environment where the staff is intimately connected and the assignments are both interesting and challenging. You’ll have many opportunities to network and develop new skills, all while being supported by your co-workers and knowing that you’re working to achieve an incredible mission.

– Josia Klein, Summer 2016

Working at She’s the First was the most illuminating and inspiring experience of my life, because not only did we learn about the inner workings of a successful, ethical nonprofit, we also got to see the the results of so much passion and hard work through the Summit and interactions with Scholars.

– Raquel Dominguez, Summer 2016

My experience inspired me to set more concrete professional goals for myself. The best part is that your connections formed here won’t end even after your time in the office has. I’ve continued to stay in touch and feel supported by the She’s the First family.

– Eva Scazzero, Spring 2015

“Interning at She’s the First was by far my favorite internship ever. It was the first time I got to be a part of something so much bigger than myself, while at the same time feeling that every little thing I did helped move us forward.

– Vivian Nunez, Fall 2012
