See us in
On October 24, 2019, we commemorated a decade of our work for (and alongside) girls at the illustrious Union Park in New York City. 400 of our closest friends packed the room, filled with interactive art with artist Kimothy Joy, upbeat music by DJ Jane, and illuminating storytelling.
The formal program began with a powerful spoken word performance of B (If I Should Have a Daughter) by TED favorite Sarah Kay, followed by remarks from STF’s four Global Girl Champions, Ellie Kaaya from Tanzania, Cynthia Muhonja of Kenya, Angélica Morales from Guatemala, and Maheshwari Raja of India. Together, they shared the impact of their education, what they’ve accomplished since (a fellowship, a nonprofit, pursuing microbiology and biochemistry at university, and a career in neurotechnology, respectively), and the power of STF’s global community.
Led by Honorary Committee members Diane von Furtstenberg, Imaan Hammam, Sarah Jones, Sarah Kauss, Cindi Leive, Fern Mallis, and Ann Tisch, they ensured the night would be a success. Both von Furstenberg and Hammam generously kickstarted the giving in the room—which raised $65,000 in under five minutes. Supporters cheered as artist Grace Kelly sang our official She’s the First anthem in celebration, alongside Broadway stars Desi Oakley and Ayana George. In total, the evening raised $300,000+ to launch our efforts into the next ten years.
Thanks to the community’s support, we will continue to fight for a world where every girl chooses her own future, because all girls deserve to be educated, respected, and heard.
