Allow Me Go to School

By Sukeji Modi, She’s the First Girls Advisory Council and Board of Directors

The girl child is like a roaring lion hid in the jungle
Many devouring her potential that is great and mighty
Written in time past history till date about the might of her power
The world doesn’t know who the girls are
Yet silenced at all times from rising and shining

Allow me go to school
That my dreams start to walk the talk that I always had in my heart
That I become intimate with my books and pens that cause me to smile
Because they are the greatest weapon to my untold dream and victory
That will rewrite my history

Allow me go to school
That my village sees the champion in me it despised
Ideated for dowry and wealth yet my voice is the enriching wealth of nations
Despised for a cheap asset yet I am a global entity my girl power is magic
My presence strikes balance in global spaces because I am the only one that knows my story

Allow me go to school
That I beat the odds and amplify my voice that carries Grace and fights for my rights
Beyond myself my pen has the power to write and make my dream manifest

Please. Allow me go to school
That I learn the syllabus of my rights and sing the rhythm of liberty
Bringing the light to my world with strength and strategy because my dream is not scum but rather a trailblazer in my silent world

Allow me go to school
That I complete my childhood with pride thinking of a future where my voice counts
A future that allows me to giggle like a baby, but not cry like an old woman,
A future that knows that there is a young girl in the village that will one day make a change,
A future that is not a weapon formed against me, but rather a platform where my dream lives and fly
Allow me go to school.
