“I’m the first lawyer in my family, and I’m driven by a desire to pave new paths and create opportunities that have never been available to us before. I aspire to inspire others and drive positive change through my work.”
Sangita, 26, is a graduate of The Small World, one of She’s the First’s partners in Nepal. The Small World focuses on providing education for girls at risk of exploitation, empowering women, and uprooting systems that create cycles of poverty. Each year, The Small World (TSW) supports 20 girls’ education and mentorship, as well as teaching larger groups of girls life skills and reproductive health education, building classrooms, and providing child protective services.
Sangita shares the impact of TSW on her life and her dreams for the future:
Support from mentors and organizations like TSW played a pivotal role. They provided invaluable guidance, encouragement, and resources that were instrumental in helping me overcome various challenges and achieve my goals. TSW, in particular, helped me build a strong network and gave me the confidence to pursue my aspirations with vigor.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the importance of resilience and community support. TSW taught me that with determination and the right support system, overcoming challenges and achieving my goals is possible.
My dream is to make a meaningful contribution as a government officer, working towards creating fair and effective policies. I also hope to inspire and mentor others, particularly women from underrepresented communities, to pursue careers in law and public service.
The Small World teaches girls like Sangita they are worthy, their dreams are possible, and their future is their own to choose. As a result, girls from The Small World become women who know how to use their voices in their homes, workplaces, and communities.
The revolution starts one girl at a time.
